Beginning

After presenting the testimony many times, I came out with the idea to make a website. Hopefully, this engineer's testimony helps others find the creator.

Testimony:How Did an Engineer Find GOD

In 1992, one early morning of the beginning of autumn, at the college dormitory in National Taiwan Chiao-Tung University, I was wide awake on the top of my bunk bed for more than ten minutes. Meanwhile, my mind was searching for the reason to start this brand new day by asking myself: “Why do I have to be alive today?” “Who gives me a command to go and eat my breakfast?” “What is the reason for continuing to walk in the journey of life?” “What is my goal?” “Is it possible to pause for a while and stop time?” “At this very moment, at this spot of my life, what is the purpose of my existence?” All these questions continued to hover in my mind.

When I was little, I asked one day:
“Mom, where did I come from?”
“Study hard and be a good boy. Then, you will understand when you grow up.”, said Mom.

Many years later, I past many kinds of exams, went to the army service, then entered into a top college through a couple tries. However, I still haven’t got the answer about why I come to this world and where I am going toward.

I told myself that I had to face this issue in a serious way. Without clarifying this issue, it doesn’t matter much to live a normal life.

Therefore, I tried to understand the meaning of life by observing my life but I found that there was full of conflicts in my life.

I thought my life was like a car, its keeps running without stopping. When the car ran out of gas, it searched for a gas station. When it’s time for tuning up, the car went to the automobile maintenance plant. When the car was broken down, it was towed to the automobile workshop. However, where is the destination of the journey, of this car?

I discovered that this world was full of surprises after I looked closer.

This world, like four seasons, operate in harmony.

All creatures live their lives according to their natural traits like migration of birds and the life cycle of flowers, etc.
Migration of birds: When winter comes, birds migrate to the south for warm weather. They give birth and raise their next generation. Then they return to the original place where they started.
Life cycle of flowers: Sprouting, growing, blooming, withering. Seeds of flowers are carried through wind or insects to continue their journey of life.
Humans don't invent, but only discover. Take cellular phones as an example, the most important elements are radio waves and semiconductors. Radio waves exist before humans appeared, so do the semiconductors. The idea of having cellular phones have already existed in humans’ mind. Therefore, instead of saying humans invent cellular phones, I would say that humans discovered the elements to make the idea of cellular phones to come true!
The more humans explore the world, the more they don’t know about the world. It’s like a person stays in a small room in the beginning. What he can see is limited to the objects in the room, like desk, chair, bed, lamp, etc. However, when he walks out of the room into other space, he explores more objects, like hallway, stairs, entrance place, balcony, etc. Moreover, when he goes out of the house, he may see the streets, electricity poles, mountains in the distance, clouds in the sky, bright sun on a sunny day, lightning and thunder of a raining day, etc. Therefore, the more objects humans are exploring with, the ratio of the unknown to known becomes higher.
Humans can be designed based on the same design. When I studied in college, I went to see a doctor due to a fever. The doctor said the temperature of 41 Celsius degrees was alright. What do you think about this doctor who didn’t see me before can be sure I would be ok with the temperature? The doctor knows about humans, not me. It’s because I am one of the humans, he applied the knowledge he studied about other humans to me. This application works may explain the existence of a common design among people.

Therefore, I assume that it's possible that this world was designed and created. Although I have never met the creator, this creator has provided enough reasons for me to make this hypothesis and inference.

If this world was created, then humans were part of the creation. However, why were humans created? What expectation from the creator did it have on humans? How does the relationship between the creator and humans look like? What is the special role for humans to play in this created world?

For answering these questions, the simplest solution is to find out this creator and ask it all at once!

Before stepping out to search for this creator, I asked myself: Is it possible for me to find this creator?

As a software engineer, my instinct leads me to think over the possible methods with the logic of computer programming languages.

The process of searching, according to the logic of computer program, is to comparing one after another one from all the objects in the range until the result is shown: found or not.

Consequently, during the process of searching, there are two keys to be decided: one is the range of searching; the other is the target of searching.

For instance, if you want to find a book about the introduction of photography from the book shelf, then the range of your searching is the shelf; and the target of searching is the book called “The Introduction of Photography”.

I applied these guideline to decide if I can find out this creator.

First, I need to decide the range of my searching. Where could this creator be? It’s possible that the creator exists on the earth, under the bottom of the ocean, or in the heaven.

If the creator exists on the earth, that location could be in Taiwan, or USA, or even Europe. Given in Taiwan, the location could be on high mountains without many people living there.

Moreover, the time the creator exists could not be overlapped with my time. If the creator existed before I was born or after I left this world, I would have never found out this creator even possibly existed.

Regarding the target of searching, I was not clear about the nature of this creator. Even though this creator appeared in front of me, I would have had ability to judge if I found the right one.

Furthermore, the creator might not exist in the sensible way of humans. Humans communicate with the world with five senses nothing else than seeing, listening, smelling, tasting and touching. If the creator existed without being seen, heard, smelled, tasted or touched, then it would had been impossible to find out the creator.

As a result, I sighed with a grieve because the possibility was almost none for me to find out this creator.

Then, why did I still want to search for the creator?

Using the analogy of quality control, which is a process of approving the quality in industrial operation, what kind of quality control for a person to approve his/her life?

I contemplate the judgment after death: If there will be a judgment after death, what will it look like?

I imagined when I was asked: Why did you live your life like this? If I had tried my best to search for this creator and live my life according to the defined direction, even though I was not sure about the result, I would not have been responsible for my life, but the creator would have had to be. Because it’s due to my limitation to get this result! On the contrary, if I had not tried to search for the creator who defines the purpose of my life, I would have to be the one to be responsible for the result of my life.

Therefore, where should I start?

I consider that I would not be the only person who has all these questions in the world. Therefore, I should take a look about how other people dealt with these questions.

I think about philosophy is one of the areas worthy of my research.

Some philosophy argues that "there is no truth in the world." If this sentence was true, then there’s no truth in this world. However, if this sentence was false, then there’s truth in this world.

Friedrich Nietzsche’s Pessimism argued that there’s no meaning for humans’ existence. I respected his argument but meanwhile, I didn’t want to reject other possibilities because of his argument. Therefore, I continued to more forward to search for other possibilities.

I think about other religions are another possible area for searching.

I grew up in Taiwan and was familiar with Taoism and Buddhism.

Taoism derives from Taoist, which follows the philosophy of Lao Tzu. Lao Tzu wrote Tao De Ching, and that the first sentence is, “The Way that can be told is not the unvarying way.”

Another word is that if the way could be described, it would not have been the everlasting universal truth. That is, the everlasting unvarying way is beyond humans.

Lao Tzu’s idea is not to define what the way is, but make a distinction between humans and the way: not controlling or defining the way. Instead, Lao Tzu focused on observing and complying with the way of heaven for achieving the harmony between heaven and humans.

Buddhism derives from the Indian, Shakyamuni’s thought called Six classes of reincarnation. It says that each person exists in the human class, one of the Six classes. Each person is equipped with spirit to evolve to the heaven class through discipline and doing good work. From the Karma, a human can make effort to cleanse his soul to return to his original pure self.

Besides Taoism and Buddhism, I also studied about Christianity.

Christianity comes from Jesus Christ. Christianity proclaims that God created the world. But the human ancestor, Adam, fell into sin and was separated from God. However, out of love, God sent Jesus as his one and only son to the world to die for people on the cross. Then the people who confess they are sinful and accept Jesus as their savior will restore the relationship with God.

There are two things in Christianity fit my observation to the world.

One: The world was created.

Two: The creator came to find out the created humans.

Because of the coincidence of the discovery between my observation and Christianity, I took Christianity as my first priority of searching for this creator and hope for solving my confusion about life.

I had no doubt about Jesus was a man in the history, who was crucified on the cross. But I wondered about his identity as the son of God as well as his resurrection.

Meanwhile, I was thinking that if I was God, how would I reveal myself to the world?

Besides taking the form of human to reveal himself to humans, I could not think about any other better ways.

Regarding Jesus’ resurrection from death, I could not judge if it’s true. My first response to this is that resurrection from death is against empirical law. But when I noticed that Jesus’ disciples were not afraid of the threatening of death after Jesus died, the curiosity arose in my heart. I wonder what power sustained Jesus’ disciples. Unless they did see Jesus’ resurrection from death, how could they behave so calmly to face the death? This calmness is also against empirical law.

Therefore, I spent two hours every week on study of bible for two years. I hoped to gain broad and deep understanding about Christianity.

After two years of study, I gained more understanding about bible and Christianity. Meanwhile, I still had a lot of questions like:

Understanding about Creation

Genesis 1:1: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Humans are part of creation, Genesis 2:7 Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

Understanding about Humans’ Fall

God’s command: Genesis 2:17: but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.
Humans sinned: Genesis 3:6: When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

Understanding about God’s Punishment: Separation from God

Genesis 3:17: To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.
Genesis 3:23: So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.

Understanding about Solution of Restoration: God Loves the World.

Method: Jesus came to the world.
Purpose: Restore the relationship between God and men.
Who initialized: God.
Target audience: The people who believe in God.
How: I admit that I am sinful and receive Jesus Christ as my savior by faith.
The motivation of this solution: Love.
Result: Eternal life.

Confusion:

The people who are born after Jesus Christ can be saved by looking to Jesus Christ. But how about the people who were born before Jesus Christ?
Is the salvation from the faith of Christians, or the decision of God? If it’s from the human’s faith, does it count as human’s effort? If it’s God’s decision before I believe, then what is my responsibility?
How to explain the image of God who often killed thousands of people in the Old Testament, but who loves the world in the New Testament?

Although I got my questions answered, the relationship between Christ and me still stops at the level of knowledge and I didn’t experience the total change of life: lacking the light I see on some of Christians, the sincerity of helping others and the assurance of life.

I was like a warrior who overcame all the difficulties by crossing ocean, desert, forests and mountains. But I seemed to lingered outside of the castle where the king was enthroned and tried all my might but still could not find the gate to enter to meet him.

Out of desperation, I took the advice from my Christian friends to say a prayer like this: “Jesus Christ, I tried very hard to search for the creator God. If you are the one I am looking for, please come to me so that I can find you because I have used up all my ways and effort without any result. ”

After saying this prayer, I started to see some change. I finally realized that I depended on my own logic to try to find the creator--Jesus Christ. Then, through giving up depending on myself, I started to feel relaxed because I believed that Jesus Christ would come to find me.

This change lifted me up from the burden of life. I felt the peace while the faith of Jesus Christ connected me with him.

Since then, while waking up in the early morning, I am cheerful to expect God’s presence. I don’t need to search for the answers about the meaning of my existence in this time and in this place because God has designed his most beautiful purposes for my life.

During the journey of searching for God, I asked the following questions and considered the answers which made sense to myself.

I suppose the Bible is only for Christians to read. Is the content of the Bible meaningful to a non-Christian?

The Bible is the words from the creator God who wants to speak to the humans in the world. If I don’t want to know anything about this God, I can care nothing about what He has said. However, if I truly want to know if this God in the Bible is the creator I am searching for, then it is meaningful with a good purpose to understand the Bible.
What is the role of human being’s rationality in the journey of searching for the truth?

Humans' rationality is part of our creation, which is the essential tool from the creator for humans to seek the truth. The speculation of our rationality may help us understand the truth, but rationality is not equal to the truth.
Rationality is like a flashlight, which can help us find the way out of the dark cave and see the true light---the sun outside of the cave.
The people who were born after Jesus Christ came to the earth can get salvation by believing in Jesus Christ. How about those people who were born before Jesus Christ was born in the world?

The purpose of a human being’s life is to know God. But human beings are not God so that we cannot and don’t need to understand all the details about how this universe is operated. God has His own perfect solution.
Is our salvation from our choice or God’s plan? If it’s from our choice, then does that mean we can overthrow God’s predestination? If God foresees my salvation, then what is my responsibility? If I don’t believe in God because He doesn’t plan about my salvation, why does God rebuke me? Isn’t that from His predestination?

As far as the human beings’ understanding has limited capacity, it’s hard to contemplate the paradox of the concept in “human being’s choice” and “God’s predestination”. However, it doesn’t mean God cannot make sense of this paradox. Therefore, I cannot limit this infinite God with my finite mind.
I often read about God in the old testament of Bible killed thousands of thousands of people. This doesn’t seem to explain the nature of a loving God. How do you explain it?

There are two possibilities about blood shedding: One is that the body was injured like in a car accident. The other is for healing the body like having a surgery. We can see from the Old Testament of the Bible, God had His expectation and plan for His people. Therefore, His action is revealing His expectation and plan, which belongs to the second possibility of healing, not hurting.

In the journey of seeking God, the following verses helped me assure of the relationship between God and me.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

How much does God loves the world to the degree that He is willing to grant His one and only son to the world? His desire is to bring the sinners who are doomed to have an opportunity to enter the kingdom of God and receive eternal life. God’s original intention is deep love!
Romans 3:25 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished

God set up the sacrifice of atonement. Jesus represents the lamb used in the sacrifice to bear the sins for people in the whole world. When people confess their sins and believe the blood shed by Jesus on the cross can cleanse their sins and give them salvation, their sins are borne by Jesus. The believers also are justified by God because their sins are forgiven.
What an amazing grace. God loves the people in the world, especially the sinners in His eyes!
Psalms 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

For Christians, God’s word is the lamp to the feet and light to the paths.
The lives of Christians are blessed and restful because God’s word lighten up the paths in front. God is like a kind father who reminds and sustain children to the details in every level of life to eternity.

When did you start to contemplate the questions on that morning of 1992? Were they in your mind for a long time? Or were they from the instant inspiration?

1992 was the first year I started to study in college. Before that, I had a clear goal about my life: to study in college. However, after I got admitted to college, I expected I would graduate from college. But I started to ask, “What is my goal after college?”

Before going to college, I was like standing under the mountain and the only thing I can see when I looked up was the peak of the mountain. After going to college, I was like standing on the terrain of the mountain, which was the peak I saw from the bottom of the mountain. While standing on the peak, I looked around numerous mountain tops and asked myself: “Which mountain top would be my next goal?” Right at that moment, I understood that if the goal of my life can be clarified first, then the milestone for each stage of life can be set up. Therefore, the determination of figuring out the goal of life sparked a series of quests.
Did you make a serious effort to contemplate the quests of life?

I didn’t start thinking a lot about these quests seriously. However, the quests grew more and more important to me until I could not stop thinking about them. It’s like when you want to find food to eat because you are hungry or when you want to find water to drink because you are thirsty. These quests were like invisible hands which choked me and I struggled to breathe. Consequently, I had to deal with the breathing problem before I could continue my normal life.

Facing these quests brought me to the depressed point very close to death. So I realized that is why people who were depressed chose suicide to end the journey of life. It’s because they would like to understand the goal of life but they could not. Suicide became a wordless protest to life. For those people who are suicidal, they are not trying to stop thinking. On the contrary, they are trying to solve their problems, but the pain of finding solution exceeds resources for coping with pain.
You said you was seeking this Creator but didn’t get the result. And you ended up understanding that it was this Creator who came to find you. Does it mean the same thing with “Buddha carries through a man who is willing,” mentioned in Buddhism?

In terms of the relationship between Provider and a receiver, the concept seems similar.

However, in Christianity, Jesus Christ is a one-way solution God Himself provides. That is, if God doesn’t provide a way to find Him, no matter how hard a man tries to find Him, God is not searchable because He is beyond a man’s limitation of searching. If a man doesn’t recognize his limitation and his need from God, then this solution is meaningless to him.

Meanwhile, in Buddhism, “carry through” means somewhat transforming. Therefore, there is a condition for Buddha to carry a man through. That is, if the man’s situation is mature enough, then Buddha can carry him through (transform him)

In terms of method, the Creator has different ways from Buddha’s.

In Christianity, God’s solution was sending Jesus Christ to the world. People can be saved through believing in Jesus Christ. It was like stepping into the elevator which could take you to up to the heaven. Through believing what this elevator claims to accomplish to bring you to the heaven, you walk into the elevator and press down the button, then the salvation is done by God.

On the contrary, the interaction with Buddha requires a man to understand Buddhism and practice the teaching for achieving the goal of being a Buddha. It was like a man who didn’t know how to climb the stairs until he was instructed the method to climb for hope it would get him to the heaven. As a result, he was required to climb the stairs with his own strength to reach a destination which could not be proved to be true by any predecessor.

To many seekers for the meaning of life, it’s hard to accept the “easy and free” solution provided by God because it’s too easy and good to be true. It’s because this solution does not fit a human’s logical thinking when the created being with limited mindset try to construct the Creator’s ability.
Why do we need Jesus Christ to access God?

In Christianity, God is the provider of solution. And Jesus is the channel God provided for people to find God. And the people in the world are the receivers. Therefore, it will not change God Himself and the identity of Jesus as God’s son that the world rejects Jesus. However, rejecting Jesus as God’s only solution of salvation will bring serious consequence to the people in the world.

During the journey of seeking God, the image often pops in my mind: There’s an ant who was in a goblet and could not climb out because its legs could not attach to the smooth and slippery surface of the glass. And then there was a twig which was put into the goblet for the ant to climb out of the goblet. However, this ant would need to believe this twig could lead it out of the goblet and it would desire to try. Otherwise, this twig was meaningless to the ant if it didn’t believe and didn’t give it a try.

Humans are destined to be born to this world just like how this ant was put into the goblet. And Jesus was sent by God to the world just like the twig which was put into the goblet. It’s obvious for us to see that the ant could not leave the goblet unless it climbed on the twig. Likewise, it’s the only way for humans to be saved through Jesus Christ.

It is God’s design to save humans through Jesus Christ. However, if humans determine to reject God’s solution and insist on their own ways, it’s natural for them to be responsible for their decision and the consequence.
Is there another way from this Creator to find you and give you help? (Sometimes I feel that God could help me through another resource giving me understanding, help and inspiration for my mind.)

I think it’s possible. During my journey of searching God, there are many people giving me a hand. I could not prove if God brought them to help me. But I believe they are the helpers sent by God.

Nevertheless, even though lacking the help from other people, humans still can recognize God’s creation by observing their surrounding. For example, while seeing the footprints of rabbits on the snow in the early morning, I believed there were rabbits coming into my backyard even though I didn’t see the rabbits. In our whole life, the nature is the fingerprint of God’s creation.
You said prayer makes you feel relieved. I feel the same feelings when I hold incense to worship the god in the temple, which is a way to communicate with god and ancestors in my spirit.

The feeling in the spirit seems similar, but the assurance of this feeling is very different. The assurance of Christianity is founded on the identity of Jesus Christ, as God’s son, who died and was risen from death.

It’s because Jesus Christ is the Son of God that we can access God through believing in Him to restore the broken relationship with God.

If Jesus Christ was not risen from the death, His identity would lack of objective proof. What He claimed to be the channel of salvation would be useless. However, Jesus Christ indeed was risen from the death after three days. He was crucified and died on the cross, which was prophesied in the Old Testament. His resurrection provides the assurance to His disciples, knowing Jesus Christ indeed was the Son of God as He claimed. Therefore, Jesus’ disciples had peace to face the persecution.

For me, the assurance of the belief plays a great role in Christianity. That is, that this belief can be proved by history in a scientific way. As a result, my belief in God is based on the proof, which brings me the peace to exceed my humane understanding. It’s not a blind faith that persuades myself and simply feeling relieved.
What is the purpose of sharing your testimony? What is your objective?

If I recommended a good restaurant to a friend, he might give it a try because I said to him that there’s a good restaurant worthy of trying. If this friend trusts my taste, he would give it a try.

However, if what I shared was a discover of so-called “the way of salvation”, my friend does not need to agree with it. That is, if he agrees that my discovery is true, it implies that he hasn’t found such “the way of salvation”. If he agrees with it and wants to receive it for his own life, he might feel his own resistance being caused by the possible change of his insistence on the current style of life.

The sharing between a good restaurant and “the way of salvation” carries different weight. It is only adding fun to daily life by sharing a good restaurant to a friend, which doesn’t influence much if he/she doesn’t try it out. Nevertheless, choosing life or death for the eternity is at stake if he/she receives “the way of salvation” or not.

No one would hold up such important information without reminding the relatives or friends around him.

It’s not what I can decide for my relatives and friends to receive this truth. However, what I want to make effort on is to clearly explain this message to them. This is the purpose of my sharing.

What on earth are you looking for? Are you looking for the reason why you were born? The answer you found is that someone send the one to come whom keeps you searching for. Now you think you have found Him. Is that the meaning of life?

I was seeking an answer to a life. And the purpose of the life is to abide in the Creator.

For me, it is important to live with integrity every day. I neither accept the statement--there must be a reason to be alive, nor make up a necessary reason for my life.

The answer I found is through careful argument. Therefore I hope my journey of seeking brings value to the people who study engineering or science.

Before becoming a Christian, the most important thing for me was to clarify the purpose of my life. After becoming a Christian, the meaning of life is to be a useful instrument for God.

These three statements can be put together. Imagine you are driving on the highway without a destination and you are asked to keep driving without stop. The driver doesn’t ask about where he needs to go, but only pump up the gas, maintains his car and enhance the functionality of the car. The conflict for a man’s life is that he tries to solve a life problem by using a solution which is obviously not working. However, a man tries to persuade himself for taking this useless solution because everyone is using the same solution.

If we see the human beings as one body, it’s obvious to see the conflict of our existence. For example, while thinking about the purpose of a man’s existence, we may say a man exists for other people or the society. Just like a doctor can help other people’s illness, an engineer constructs road used for walking. However, if the whole human beings is considered as one body, the previous statement doesn’t apply to the whole world because the existence of human beings threatens other species most of time. If this world is to be operated in a sustainable way, it would be easier without human beings. However, without the existence of human beings, what is the meaning of the sustainable operation of the world? Who will care about it?

To sum up, the existence of human beings was not chosen by humans. And humans continue to deny the meaning of their existence, which is my perspective to the conflict.
The various religions could lead to the same heaven. Why is Christianity the only truth and other religions are false?

Christianity is coming from above. Our response to the identity of Jesus Christ and His gospel is either yes or no. There’s no other possibility for our response, just like the true or false questions in the test.

In the teaching of Christianity clearly claims that Jesus Christ is the only way for humans to restore their relationship with God. Therefore, it’s impossible to lead to the same heaven through Christianity and other religions.
In my opinion, different religions were like various meals. Some people prefer vegetables and tofu, others like fish and meat. I don’t think you need to deny others’ taste if you don’t like it.

If the search is for comforting your mind and spirit, of course it’s up to your taste. However, if it’s a truth seeking, it will be necessary to make good use of clues around you and apply the reasonable argument to the searching.

For example, there are clues about creatures through observation from versatile plants or animals. The research says that an ant can lift up objects as heavy as 10 times of its weight. That’s because the muscle and skeleton of ants is designed in a special way. The similar surprising facts can also be found on creatures like bears, hummingbirds or even pine cones, etc. Therefore, it is a reasonable argument that there is a Creator behind these amazing design.

Meanwhile, a true God doesn’t need to live in the temples humans made. A true God is not an imaginary character in novels. A true God cannot be limited by the infinite time and space. In terms of the attributes of a God, a man-made god is not a Creator, but only a creation.

If it’s not obvious to recognize who the true God is, then at least it is wiser for a man to eliminate the impossible choices.

I use an analogy to explain: If a jewelry box for a diamond ring is broken and dirty, the value of the diamond ring inside of the box doesn’t lose its value. It’s because the jewelry box is only a carrier for the diamond ring. Likewise, Christians are the carrier of Christ. The core of Christianity is Jesus Christ, not Christians.

Therefore, for truly knowing the core of Christianity should starts from knowing who Jesus Christ is, rather than only focusing on the things Christians have done.
Why does God only save the people who believe in Him? If God is love, why does He not save everyone?

The Bible says: God loves the world. His love is like the sun shines its light and givings its heat to every corner without condition. Likewise, God’s love gives each person an opportunity of salvation without condition. However, people will walk out of the house to bathe under the sunshine for getting vitamin D if they believe they need vitamin D which the sunlight can give. Likewise, only the people who believe they need salvation from God and believe Jesus Christ provides the effective redemption, they will receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and their Lord.
If God is almighty and sovereign, is my attitude one of His arrangements? If God has chosen me to believe in Jesus, then will I involuntarily believe in Him since He has arranged all what I will do?

For God is all-knowing, He can foresee the future which hasn’t happened to humans. God also can interfere to change the things that might happen. However, God’s arrangement does not contradict the fact that humans need to be responsible for their decision. It’s a mystery that how God can both carry out His plan and allow humans the space for their own decision. Similarly, it’s a mystery to know how God can foresee the future. But I know what I can do is humble myself to choose to believe He has the ability to foresee the future as well as He can synchronize His arrangement and humans’ decisions.

If a God can be completely understood and analyzed under humans’ logical mind, then one thing I am sure is that this God is not the Creator who created universe and all beings because the level of His existence is the same with mine.
Under the assumption that God’s level is far higher than humans’ reality which may not completely understand God’s intention, we take the concept of enclosed isolated sandbox as an example, putting humans as relative higher position (i.e. developer) to trace or guess God’s mind in order to seek the relative reasonable clues or answers to the relationship between God and humans. For example, the question is asking why humans cannot find God, etc.

The corrective way of finding and reading clues matters when you want the clues to lead you to a useful solution for your questions. God actually left a lot of clues in this world. Taking the structure of human’s body as an example, a doctor can explain to patients about their physical structure, the meaning of certain number from blood test and the operation of normal organs. A doctor’s diagnosis of a patient reveals a blueprint on a human being, such as a heart pumps blood to a body and carries oxygen out of a heart and brings carbon dioxide back. And this blueprint is the exact clue of seeing humans as a created being. Therefore, there are clues in the world left by God to humans if we don’t ignore them or explain them in a wrong way.
From the recent vigorous development in Biotech/Genetic Engineering, humans seem to try various ways to research on animals and plants for transforming them. There might be possibility of making huge mistakes and bring the unpredictable disaster. If God is the Creator of the world, do Christians consider such attempt of transforming creatures is overstepping God’s authority?

It’s unique for humans to use knowledge to improve their living condition, which distinguishes humans from other creatures. The ability is originally given to humans to rule over the world (refer to the Bible). However, the mindset of using this ability brings consequence. Humans often see themselves as a master of the world and exercise this ability. For example, humans use pesticide to reduce bugs within short time, but in the long run, the result is causing pesticide resistance on insects and chemical pollution on the creatures in the food chain. In my opinion, if humans can humble themselves as a created being and carefully use their knowledge and ability, then humans can reduce the impact that the execution of their ability brings on the environment and themselves.

Therefore, in my opinion, the problem is not on humans who use their ability, but the attitude of seeing self as a master of the world instead of a created being by ignoring the Creator behind the world. I believe a person who believes in the Creator will carefully develop the research on the topics like Genetic Engineering.

I personally feel that the disaster must happen in the future and the development of Genetic Engineering is advancing it.

The Bible says: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. 11 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” (Romans 10:9-11)

If your mouth acknowledges the fact that Jesus Christ who died for your sin and was raised from death by God; and your heart receives him as your Savior and the Lord, you are a believer.

Believing in God is abiding in Him through the way God provides: by believing Jesus Christ as the son of God, who is the incarnation of an invisible God. And we recognize our need of redemption from the debt of sin and believe Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself to offer us the redemption.

About finding a reason: Jesus said: A person who is sick needs a doctor. If we don’t think we are sick, it’s hard to persuade ourselves to go to a doctor.

Jesus Christ describes humans’ spiritual sickness from the perspective of a Creator. He created humans and has an expectation on us. While humans cannot fulfill this expectation, it is considered incomplete or sick from His perspective. Therefore, He came to this world to provide a remedy of healing.

In terms of emotional feeling, it might not be obvious to see the difference between believing in Jesus and Buddha. However, the assured object of believing is very different.

Jesus is a real man from the history. He showed many miraculous wonders to testify His identity as the son of God.

Moreover the purpose of believing makes this faith different. Believing Buddha is from a need to satisfy self for hoping Buddha to solve my own problems. On the contrary, believing in Jesus is seeking His will be done on myself. For example, many missionaries don’t choose the material life but choose God’s will be done on them by going to the poor place to preach the gospel.
Without believing in Jesus Christ, how can he understand your testimony? If he has believed in Jesus, he will not need to read your testimony. So what is the value of your testimony?

The eternal life is the promise for people who believe in Jesus and it means that having relationship with God in eternity. The contrary of eternal life is eternal death--being separated from God and suffering in the lake of fire forever.

God is the creator and God created the whole universe and all kinds of life. Humans are the created beings. However, humans are unique from other creatures because they are created in God’s image. Devil is the fallen angel.

God is the ruler of the whole universe and humans are the objective of receiving blessing from God. Angels are the servants of God. Meanwhile, the fall angel, the devil, is the fake rule of the earth.

God’s plan is to save humans from the control of devil and return to Him as His children.

The scriptures written before Jesus was born is called Old Testament; the scriptures written after Jesus was born is called New Testament.

Judaism only includes the Old Testament from the Bible because the Jewish people don’t acknowledge Jesus as the coming Messiah (this Hebrew word means Savior) prophesied in the Old Testament. They are still waiting for this Messiah because they don’t He has come.

The four books of gospel are all about Jesus’ life from different perspectives and targeted on different readers.

The target audience for the Book of Matthew are Jewish people. The message is that Jesus is the Messiah, the Savior prophesied in the Old Testament, who has been eagerly waiting by the Jews.

The target audience of Book of Mark is the Gentiles (non Jewish). The message is that Jesus is the Son of God.

The message of the Book of John is the incarnation of the Word.

The Book of Luke was written from the perspective of historic research. It recorded details which were not mentioned in other three books of gospel.

The Old Testament was originally written in Hebrew. And the New Testament was originally written in Greek. Therefore, the interpretation of the original text may differ among versions because of translation. For example, NIV (New International Version) sometimes supplied words not in the original texts but required by the context for achieving clarity for readers. ESV (English Standard Version) emphasizes on “word-for-word” correspondence, letting the reader see as directly as possible the structure and meaning of the original but may not be easy to understand in the modern language.
My question is that if God created humans in His image to seek the truth, why did He create a “stronger” human to easily find out the truth?

My opinion is that the “stronger” humans are far from God.

In Genesis, we see that Adam and Eve disobeyed God because they wanted to be like God.

Likewise, from the observation of our reality, when we have smooth life, we often consider ourselves good people so that we don’t want God. However, when the trouble or disaster come to us, we may feel helpless and start to look for God.

Therefore, it’s not depending on ability, but a humble mindset that a person can find the truth or not.
Why does a good person suffer? Why does a bad guy run freely? Where is the justice in this world? If God is almighty and full of love, why does He come to save us? What is He waiting for?

In Christianity, sin is the main reason causing people to have different degree of suffering in this world.

However, humans can be redeemed through the grace of salvation accomplished by Jesus Christ on the cross. Nevertheless, it doesn’t mean Christians will never suffer in this life. As far as the early churches are concerned, being Christians might be the beginning of persecution.

Christians are hopeful because Jesus Christ has overcome death and was risen from the death. Therefore, even though Christians are persecuted, they can overcome because of the Hope.

For example, the apostle Paul was persecuted and put to the prison. But he cared little about this life. He said: “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Phillipians 4:12)

Paul’s secret is trusting Jesus Christ who gives him strength.

Moreover, in Christianity, there is no one person considered “good” and all people were born as sinners, who are lacking of God’s glory. And through believing Jesus Christ who was sent by God, we are to be called “righteous”, redeemed to pay off the debt, and restored the relationship with God.

In Christianity, “righteousness” is defined by a righteous God, not in human logic.

God is love. That’s why He doesn’t want the people in the world die in their sins because all people, good or bad, will die in this life. Therefore, God sent His one and only precious son, Jesus Christ, to the world and Jesus bore the sin and died on the cross for all people. Therefore, those forgiven sinners will receive eternal life instead of eternal death.

The death of Jesus Christ fulfilled God’s justice and love. It’s because the people in the world committing sins to disobey God, that someone needs to pay it off. This is God’s justice. And the death of Jesus fulfilled God’s justice to substitute for us to be punished by the Just. On the other hand, Jesus died for the world and displayed God’s great love to the world. It’s because of God’s love, He presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, who became a man and died on the cross. For those people who believe in Jesus shedding blood for their sins, they are to be justified in front of God and will not perish.

As what God is waiting for? God is waiting for the world to repent, for God has given the salvation to the world through Jesus. When Jesus comes again, we will face the trial. Then it would be too late to believe in Jesus.
How to discern from different religions/philosophies/science which proclaim the original of the world and the meaning of human beings? In my opinion, all kinds of theories are different and limited. Even the statement of the bible may be challenged by scientific development. For example, the earth is not the center of the world, or even if there’s no center in this world, etc.

The Bible is a belief that can stand to the test. For example, the characters in the Bible, like Jesus, Peter, John and Paul who truly existed in history. Jesus preached gospel for three years and then was crucified on the cross. His disciples were persecuted, which were proved in the history. Christianity can be proved through historic facts. Even though people doubt about Jesus’ identity as the Son of God, I don’t think people could deny the fact that Jesus was crucified on the cross.

As an engineer, I tend to listen to the proof. Even though all the characters and events in the Bible being matched could not give you scientific statement, at least Christianity stands to the test and worthy of your further studying.

Moreover, the Bible is inspired and not changed by God from the beginning to end. But it could be different for humans to understand the Bible along the time. The Bible doesn’t say that the earth is the center of the world, which was interpreted by the theologians in the 16thm 17th century. Therefore, God never changes, and His revelation in the Bible never change. However, the change may come to the understanding to God or the Bible for humans.
Could God be found only through sense, through sensibility? If both are required, will it bring different result by apply them in different order?

The way of sense can include analysis, comparison and induction.

The God can be found through sense is under the level of divinity. Therefore, the god can be found through the sense alone must not be the true God. However, rationality of sense plays an important role to clarify the possible form of God. For example, God can never be the character in the novel; God is not limited with space and time; God is not constructed by humans’ logic. While humans were created, God give the sense of recognizing God to us: the candidates of true God are eliminated through filtering them out by sense. Meanwhile, further verification for the interaction with this God through sensibility also plays another important role of searching for the true God.

In my journey of searching, it is sense that helps me acknowledge two crucial things:

1. There is a creator for the world.
2.It depends on the creator for humans to find Him.

Due to the understanding of these two points, I believe the God in Christianity is the one I am searching for. Afterwards, the prayer with my sensibility unites my heart with this God and assures of my belief.

If the order is reversed, sensibility precedes sense, it’s still possible to find God in my opinion. However, it could take more time for using sensibility to recognize each object because only one object can be focused at one time.
I believe there’s a creator and I believe I am created by Him. Meanwhile, I also believe when He created me, He didn’t give me the desire of searching for Him. Therefore, I feel content with my current living style.

Most of time, the motivation may be influenced by the circumstance.

For example, kids being 7 or 8 years old don’t have any motivation of studying hard for getting a good job in the future. Young people being 20 or 30 years old don’t feel the urgency of saving money for retirement.

Therefore, the motivation is not absent, but the circumstance of triggering the motivation hasn’t been developed yet.

You can take things in control by your pace when you know your need and plan about it in the long run. On the contrary, if you wait for the circumstance to come to you, you may often solve problems in a passive way.

Being active to search for this creator often bring blessing. On the other hand, the journey could be harder to bear in the midst of trouble.
If the God is almighty and all-knowing, why does He create imperfect mankind and allow them to be tempted?

God’s definition of creating a perfect man is: He gives a man ability to choose. And when a man chooses God, God is glorified.

If God created a man who has no ability to choose like a robot, I feel it’s boring to predict the result from God’s view.

Therefore, humans are not perfect but God can fill that space of imperfection. When a man chooses to allow God to fill that emptiness, the man becomes imperfect in God’s standard.
God knows humans have weaknesses, sinful desires, why did He not destroy all of them and restart?

In the Old Testament, God did destroy all the manind with flood. But before God did that, He told a man called Noah to build an ark, which allowed people to enter for refuge from the flood. It’s a pity that only 8 people including Noah in his family entered into the ark and were saved.

We see God gave people opportunity to escape when God brought disaster to the world. However, people missed that opportunity.

Jesus’ incarnation was like the ark. Whoever believe in Him will be like Noah and his family entering to the ark and he will be saved when the big flood (Jesus’ second coming) arrives.

It’s obvious to see God is compassionate and just. The disaster must come due to God’s justice. Nevertheless, the door to escape the disaster must be opened due to God’s compassion.

Therefore, God has destroyed mankind but He left 8 people including Noah and his family. In the future, God will destroy all mankind except keeping those who believe in Jesus.
Is sensibility necessary for the searching the true God in Christianity?

In my opinion, yes.

It’s called faith to surpass our rational understanding through sensibility. As Hebrews 11:1 says in the Bible: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.”

Faith is essential because God and humans exist in two different realm God has revealed His message and plan for mankind through prophets and the Bible. However, without faith, human beings still cannot go over to another spiritual realm to understand what God said. And faith is the channel for mankind to cross over this huge gap.
How to prove that Jesus is the son of God as He proclaimed about Himself?

Before answering this question, we want to clarify the ability of human’s mind and the scope of dealing with the problem.

It’s impossible for humans to return to the historical era of Jesus’ time to witness Jesus’ life and the miracles He did. However, humans can testify the things happened on Jesus as the questions that historians often ask. For example, did Jesus exist as a man? Was He really crucified on the cross? Is it true that His tomb was empty? Did He really appear to the disciples after He rose from the dead? The methods of finding the answers may include researching the historical documentation and discovery in archaeology.

But even though the answers to these questions are ensured, it is still not a direct proof to confirm that Jesus is the son of God. We only can say that Jesus is a very special person. If He was not the son of God, then it is hard to imagine anybody in this world could have been a better fit to be the son of God. From the perspective of God to see this problem, God wants to reveal who He is to the world. But humans have mental limitation to “receive” His announcement. Therefore, God has to confine Himself to humans’ limited ability. Thus, Jesus’ life is the perfect revelation for humans to get in touch with. For example, the prophecies in the Old Testament mentioned about the virgin giving birth to a baby, the king riding the donkey into Jerusalem, the Savior was crucified on the cross and rose again after three days, etc. All of these prophecies have been fulfilled in the New Testament.

Given knowing these things happened on Jesus and confirming the truth, you still cannot feel motivated to know Jesus as the son of God, you may want to try to ponder this question: If God exists, then how do you expect Him to reveal Himself to you? If your heart still cannot be stirred up to seek God anyhow, then you would not want to say that He didn’t reveal Himself to you because you simply have exclude yourself from His revelation.

After knowing these things happened on Jesus and confirming the truth, how can you further confirm that Jesus is the son of God? Faith is the essential requirement for understanding something beyond our limitation.

Faith to Jesus can be assured through knowing Jesus’ existence and historical facts of many of His wonderful deeds. When people are willing to believe Jesus from their hearts, acknowledging in their mouths about the identity of Jesus as the son of God, God is pleased because He has found the lost. God will also give the Holy Spirit to believers for understanding His plans and purposes for their lives. As a result, they will live out a different life from before knowing God through the guidance of Holy Spirit.

Therefore, how can we testify that Jesus is the son of God? Ask God to give you the faith to cross the limitation of rationality and humane ability. Then acknowledge that Jesus is the son of God. Ask Him to enter into your heart. And then your heart will be touched by Him and undoubtedly know that He truly is the son of God!

Anyone can claim to be God but he needs to prove it with evidence to be considered qualified as a candidate. For example, I can claim to be a software programmer. But if I don’t have any degree, nor any working experience, nothing to prove my ability to be qualified for this job, then which company may give me an opportunity of interview?

Jesus’ proof is that He rose from the dead and many other miraculous signs, as well as His proclamation as the son of God.

From the beginning of the creation of the world before the birth of Jesus Christ, the period of time recorded in the bible is called Old Testament. During that time, God made the covenant with Abraham, the Israel. After Jesus Christ was born, the period of time recorded in the bible is called New Testament. And God made a new covenant with the believers including Jews and Gentiles through Jesus Christ.

During the Old Testament, God proclaimed His will through His chosen servants. For example, Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt; Joshua led the Israelites into God’s promised land--Canaan; Samuel the prophet anointed David to be the king; Isaiah the prophet foretold the coming of Jesus Christ as Savior. During this period of time, Israelites connected with God by obeying His law---Ten Commandments.

During the New Testament, God fulfilled His salvation plan through Jesus Christ. First, He brought Jesus to the world so that He is visible in human’s eyes. God clearly reveals His expectation on humans and testified Jesus as the son of God through His word and many miraculous works. At last, Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead after three days. The purpose of God’s plan through Jesus Christ is to redeeming sinners and forgive our sins, fulfilling the prophecy about the Savior, Messiah in the Old Testament. For those who believe Jesus as the son of God and believe He died for their sins, God gives these believers a new identity: God’s children. And God gives them a living hope: eternity. This is the new covenant God makes with the believers through Jesus Christ.

The scope of the law in the Old Testament mainly focuses on behaviors. For example, the Ten Commandments says: You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false testimony. On the other hand, the New Testament focuses on our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. For example, Jesus says: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” A believer of Jesus will receive Holy Spirit and become a new person with a new heart, which is given by God. With this new heart, his inward thought and outward behavior will be transformed. God also sees the believer as righteous due to his faith. Therefore, the believers ought to connect with God through His son, Jesus’ blood shed for them, rather than through their behavior and the work of obeying the law.
